For the last twenty years or so, I have been making quilts. It first started out as something for me to do while I was working the night shift at a call center and it quickly turned into my passion. I had a real knack for creating beautiful quilts and I usually gave them to my friends as gifts. But as the years wore on, I realized that maybe there might be some money to be made and I took a serious look at how I could make money from my hobby.
At first, I thought that I would test the waters by going to a few flea markets to see if there was any interest in buying my quilts. I quickly learned that a flea market is not the best place to sell something that is more than two hundred dollars, and though I had many people compliment me on the quality of my workmanship, I did not make one sale. I was disappointed at how things turned out, but I was not discouraged – I knew that there was a market out there for my wares and I just had to find it.

After consulting with a few of my friends that sold their crafts in the community, it was suggested that I go talk to an advertising agency and get an expert opinion as to the best way to sell my goods. The initial consultation went well and they suggested that I might have some success if I were to sell my quilts online.

It took a bit more than a month to get my website setup and promoted, but I am happy to say that I have already made three sales. I feel very encouraged by the results and I hope that in the near future that my quilt sales will be able to let me leave my full time job and let me do what I truly love – making quilts.
